For startup accelerator programs, the pressing question is always one of how effective the program is at supporting its cohorts of startup teams, in terms of educating them, coaching their work, facilitating their needs, and moving them toward a stage where they can demonstrate a solid value proposition that's worthy of additional investment, not to mention getting them in front of willing and able investors capable of taking them to the next stage.
To assess this, one must examine – in detail – seven (7) key areas of the program, namely:
By intentionally addressing and mastering these seven key areas, any given accelerator program can become highly effective at supporting its cohorts of founder teams.
The need, therefore, is to know – as a startup accelerator – how far along one's program is, and how well this program stacks up against the best in the world (accelerators such as, for example, Y Combinator, 500 Startups, Techstars, and AngelPad).
To assess this, we carry out Global Innovation Institute's Accredited Accelerator Program Assessment Process. This is a comprehensive on-site assessment that critically examines each of the above seven areas, scoring each one on a scale of 0 - 10, and thereafter assigning to the program an overall effectiveness rating (likewise on a scale of 0 - 10).

As the flagship Authorized Innovation Provider® (AInP®) of Global Innovation Institute – Legacy Innovation Group executes the GInI Accelerator Program Assessment Process using GInI's world-class assessment methods and tools.
The GInI Accelerator Program Assessment is a comprehensive assessment of the accelerator and its associated training and support program, allowing us to establish the accelerator's overall level of effectiveness in supporting the cohorts of founder teams that it is sponsoring and thus striving to support. This also indirectly infers its level of effectiveness in supporting the investors who later on will invest in these startups. It is thus an indicator of the accelerator's ability to successfully sponsor, guide, and support each of its respective cohorts of startup founders throughout the early-stage startup process.
The Accelerator Program Assessment Process involves three primary steps.
Per GInI's requirements, this process must be executed using at least two (2) GInI Authorized Innovation Assessors® (AInAs®) chosen by Legacy Innovation Group, and operating under Legacy Innovation Group's direction and supervision. For especially large programs, more than two AInAs® may be used.
The outcomes of this process, as documented in the AxPAAR, will determine whether or not the accelerator qualifies for formal accreditation by GInI as an Accredited Accelerator Program, and if so, at which of the three levels awarded&hellp; Novice (score of 3.00 - 4.99), Advanced (score of 5.00 - 7.99), or Premier (score of 8.00 - 10.00).
The final report that will be shared with you by GInI (the AxPAAR) will contain all of the Assessors' findings, your total score and detailed score breakdown by subsection (with corresponding radar plot), and a gap analysis indicating where improvements could be made in the program. It will not, however, include prescriptions for how to address any of these gaps, as those types of insights are the domain of consulting (and not of assessment).
All information gathered, reviewed, and documented within this process is treated as confidential. The upfront documentation and interview records will remain with the AInAs® and are not sent to GInI. Only the final report (the AxPAAR) is sent to GInI.
The Accelerator Program Assessment Engagement typically follows these steps:
CEOs come and CEOs go. Some are excellent. They generally ‘get it’. Others not so much. They really ‘don't get it’. What makes the difference between these?
